Western Australia’s bill on sex or gender changes under scrutiny

Western Australian Labor Party’s controversial gender self-identification bill has continued to come under scrutiny.

The bill will make it easier for people to change their gender on official documents.

Women’s Forum Australia Rachel Wong said it is disappointing that so few members of the WA Legislative Council seem to understand the grave arms of such a law.

Ms Wong claimed that the bill would put women and girls at risk.

“These MPs are saying things like, oh well, there’s no evidence of harm from these kinds of laws and well, actually there’s plenty of evidence of harm,” Ms Wong said.

“There’s the evidence of harm in sport there are women being assaulted and female-only spaces we’ve shown them this evidence, and they’ve chosen to ignore it.”
